The feminine plural <b>alumnae</b> is sometimes used for groups of women, and <b>alums</b> (: <b>alum</b>) or <b>alumns</b> (: <b>alumn</b>) as gender-neutral alternatives. The word comes from <a href="page.php?w=Latin">Latin</a>, meaning nurslings, pupils or foster children, derived from <i>alere</i> "to nourish".</p>
