<p><b>Application-layer framing</b> or <b>application-level framing</b> (<b>ALF</b>)  is a method of allowing  an <a href="page.php?w=application_software">application</a> to use its <a href="page.php?w=semantics">semantics</a> for the design of its <a href="page.php?w=network_protocol">network protocol</a>s.</p>
