Naturally occurring grottoes are typically small coastal caves associated with bodies of water and may be partially or fully submerged at <a href="page.php?w=high_tide">high tide</a>. Artificial grottoes have also been constructed as <a href="page.php?w=garden_feature">garden feature</a>s, particularly in landscape design from the Renaissance onward.
