It was the name given first to a series of fungi within the genus <a href="page.php?w=Boletus">Boletus</a>, then erected as a new genus last century. Their main distinguishing feature is the small, rigid projections (scabers) that give a rough texture to their <a href="page.php?w=stipe_%28mycology%29">stalks</a>.
