It contains only one living genus, <a href="page.php?w=Pelecinus">Pelecinus</a>, with three species known from the Americas. The earliest fossil species are known from the <a href="page.php?w=Jurassic">Jurassic</a>, and the group was highly diverse during the <a href="page.php?w=Cretaceous">Cretaceous</a>.
