<p>The <b>post-Soviet states</b>, also referred to as the <b>former Soviet Union</b> or the <b>former Soviet republics</b>, are the independent sovereign states that emerged/re-emerged from the <a href="page.php?w=dissolution_of_the_Soviet_Union">dissolution of the Soviet Union</a> in 1991.
