Beam axles were once commonly used at the rear wheels of a vehicle, but historically, they have also been used as front axles. In most automobiles, beam axles have been replaced with front (IFS) and rear <a href="page.php?w=independent_suspension">independent suspension</a>s (IRS).</p>
