<p>In <a href="page.php?w=phonetics">phonetics</a> and <a href="page.php?w=phonology">phonology</a>, a <b>semivowel</b>, <b>glide</b> or <b>semiconsonant</b> is a sound that is phonetically similar to a <a href="page.php?w=vowel">vowel</a> sound but functions as the <a href="page.php?w=syllable">syllable</a> boundary, rather than as the <a href="page.php?w=syllable_nucleus">nucleus</a> of a syllable.
