<p>The first case occurred in November 1996, when 39-year-old Patricia Padget, an animal caregiver in <a href="page.php?w=Rockhampton">Rockhampton</a>, sustained several scratches from a bite from a <a href="page.php?w=yellow-bellied_sheath-tailed_bat">yellow-bellied sheath-tailed bat</a> in her care. She reported to the hospital four to five weeks later for shoulder pain, dizziness, vomiting, headache, fever, and chills.
