If the intensity drops, then as a result the saturation drops.  To desaturate a color of given intensity in a <a href="page.php?w=Subtractive_color">subtractive</a> system (such as <a href="page.php?w=watercolor">watercolor</a>), one can add white, black, <a href="page.php?w=Grey">gray</a>, or the hue's <a href="page.php?w=Complementary_color">complement</a>.</p>
