<p>Lower Eocene rocks in <a href="page.php?w=Kent">Kent</a>, which has also been considered a <a href="page.php?w=gull">gull</a>, but is now thought to have been a member of an extinct family.</p>

<p>Amongst the three subfamilies, the Alcedininae are <a href="page.php?w=Basal_%28phylogenetics%29">basal</a> to the other two subfamilies.
