Thompson married John Christian Tilbury, a riding-master, on 3 January 1863 in London, and soon gave birth to a daughter. She returned to the stage in The Alabama at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. In 1864, 15 months after their marriage, Tilbury died in a steeplechasing accident.
