and she served as a distinguished visiting scholar there in 1984-85. The Ohio State University board of trustees approved the Marie Clay Endowed Chair in Reading Recovery and Early Literacy on 4 February 2005. In 2017 Clay was selected as one of the Royal Society Te Aparangi's "150 women in 150 words", celebrating the contribution of women to knowledge in New Zealand.
