<p><big>Standard diving dress</big></p>
<p>Standard, or heavy gear is the historical copper helmet, waterproofed canvas suit, and weighted boots. The original system used a manually powered <a href="page.php?w=diver%27s_pump">diver's pump</a> to supply air, and no reserve gas or bailout cylinder was provided. As the technology became available, voice communication was added, and mechanically driven compressors were used.</p>
