There was an aborted project under Roman emperor Julian (361-363 CE) to rebuild the Temple. Julian is traditionally called Julian the Apostate because he rejected the Christian faith in which he had been brought up. Once emperor his policy was to seek to revive the traditional religion by enabling traditional religious practices and restoring holy places
