suggest the etymology to be originally Elamite; citing the Babylonian kassi-tira, hence the sanskrit kastiram. However the Akkadian word (the lingua franca of the Ancient Near East, including Babylonia) for tin was "anna-ku" (cuneiform: ??). Roman Ghirshman
