<p>For many centuries, until around 1175, <a href="page.php?w=Anglo-Saxons">Anglo-Saxon</a> and then <a href="page.php?w=Anglo-Normans">Anglo-Norman</a> women, with the exception of young unmarried girls, wore veils that entirely covered their hair, and often their necks up to their chins (see <a href="page.php?w=wimple">wimple</a>).</p><p>
