Jaydipsinh Dodiya posited that the Langka mentioned in the ancient Sanskrit epic Ramayana may have been Langkasuka. Thai sources made no reference to Langkasuka, but Pattani, which may have succeeded Langkasuka, was identified by M.C. Chand Chirayu Rajani as one of the twelve Naksat cities under the influence of Nakhon Si Thammarat in Thai chronicles.
