<p>The most widely used classification of Papuan languages is that of <a href="page.php?w=Stephen_Wurm">Stephen Wurm</a>, listed below with the approximate number of languages in each family in parentheses. This was the scheme used by <a href="page.php?w=Ethnologue">Ethnologue</a> prior to Ross's classification (below).
