<p>rubber stamps were believed to be created after the discovery of vulcanized rubber by the American Charles Goodyear in 1839. Vulcanization allowed rubber to be permanently hardened, so it could be used for many commercial processes. It is believed that the first rubber stamps were created by James Orton Woodruff from Auburn, NY. His uncle, Urial Woodruff, was a dentist who used a vulcanizer to make rubber dentures.
