IUGS geological heritage site

In respect of the site being "characterized by exceptional soft-tissue preservation, [and containing] the most complete fossil record of Cambrian (Wuliuan) marine ecosystems", the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) included the "Burgess Shale Cambrian Paleontological Record"
