<p>One of the early Western students of Islamic patterns, <a href="page.php?w=Ernest_Hanbury_Hankin">Ernest Hanbury Hankin</a>, defined a "geometrical arabesque" as a pattern formed "with the help of construction lines consisting of polygons in contact."</p><p>
