<p>Vessels commissioned by the <a href="page.php?w=United_States_Lighthouse_Service">United States Lighthouse Service</a> (USLHS) were originally not given unique names or hull numbers. Instead, names were exchanged when a new vessel was assigned to a station. <a href="page.php?w=Lightship">Lightships</a> first received the hull code "LS" before being replaced by "LV" (lightvessel).
