New Zealand, name suppression is the commonly used term for a court order preventing the publication of a name or details of a criminal case. The rules for name suppression are laid out in the Criminal Procedure Act 2011. Name suppression can be granted automatically for several reasons, including to protect the identities of victims of sex crimes or to protect the identity of children under the age of 17.
