The Hills Capitol was visited by prominent people of the 19th century, including the French nobleman and Revolutionary War general, the Marquis de Lafayette in 1825 and the then-Prince of Wales Albert Edward (later King Edward VII) in 1860. Abraham Lincoln visited the capitol in February 1861 as president-elect
