<p>1981 was published the first limit by a water Cherenkov detector at the Homestake gold mine, looking for the production and detection of a decaying muon following a nucleon decay event:  yr, where  is the model-dependent probability for this particular decay channel (or <a href="page.php?w=Branching_fraction">branching ratio</a>).
