Micronesian withdrawal

Following the election of Henry Puna as Secretary-General in February 2021 during a virtual meeting, Palau threatened to leave the Forum, claiming that a "gentlemen's agreement" to rotate the position between Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia, had been violated. Puna had won a ballot by one vote (9-8) against the Marshall Island's Gerald Zackios, who was supported by five nations from Micronesia.
