The thermohaline circulation is sometimes called the ocean conveyor belt, the great ocean conveyor, or the global conveyor belt. On occasion, it is imprecisely used to refer to the <a href="page.php?w=meridional_overturning_circulation">meridional overturning circulation</a>, (MOC).</p>
