<p>which produces an anti-tail. There is a considerable piling up of older synchrones producing the observed sharp edge on to the anti-tail. Younger synchrones are also crowded together while those of intermediate ages are spread out over a broad area of sky making the tail fainter in this region and giving the impression that the it is split into a main branch and a sunward branch.</p>
