BRexx was developed by Vasilis N Vlachoudis, a nuclear scientist at CERN. It runs on a range of operating systems, including Unix, Linux, BSD, macOS and Windows. Its small size means it can run on an Android mobile phone. BRexx/370 is a version that runs on IBM mainframes.

OS/2 has a visual development system from Watcom VX-REXX. Another dialect was VisPro REXX from Hockware.
