Therefore, only é and è are normally contrasted, typically in words ending in <i>-ché</i>, such as <i>perché</i> ('why/because'); in the conjugated <a href="page.php?w=copula_%28linguistics%29">copula</a> <i>è</i> ('is'); in ambiguous monosyllables such as <i>né</i> ('neither') vs. <i>ne</i> ('of it') and <i>sé</i> ('itself')</p><p>
