<p>Cyanamide is the name for a functional group with the formula  where R<sup>1</sup> and R<sup>2</sup> can be a variety of groups. These compounds are called <b>cyanamides</b>. One example is naphthylcyanamide, C<sub>10</sub>H<sub>7</sub>N(CH<sub>3</sub>)CN, which has been produced by the <a href="page.php?w=von_Braun_reaction">von Braun reaction</a>, a general method for the conversion of <a href="page.php?w=tertiary_amine">tertiary amine</a>s to cyanamides using <a href="page.php?w=cyanogen_bromide">cyanogen bromide</a></p><p>
