<p>Because the frequency of light waves (~10<sup>14</sup> Hz) is too high for currently available detectors to detect the variation of the electric field of the light, it is possible to observe only the <a href="page.php?w=intensity_%28physics%29">intensity</a> of an optical interference pattern.
