Palomar Distant Solar System Survey that was carried out in the Northern Hemisphere and led to the discovery of several trans-Neptunian objects and centaurs. In 1996, the telescope imaged 7968 Elst-Pizarro with a previously unseen cometary tail, which spawned a new class of celestial bodies called main-belt comet.
