The word "gruffy" is thought to derive from the grooves that were formed where the lead ore was extracted from <a href="page.php?w=Vein_%28geology%29">veins</a> near the surface. Other commodities obtained included <a href="page.php?w=calamine_%28mineral%29">calamine</a> (<a href="page.php?w=zinc">zinc</a> ore), <a href="page.php?w=manganese">manganese</a>, iron, copper and <a href="page.php?w=baryte">baryte</a>.</p><p>
