has three major dialects: Western (Ohswé:ken and Kenhté:ke), Central Ahkwesáhsne, and Eastern (Kahnawà?ke and Kanehsatà?ke); the differences between them are largely phonological. These are related to the major Mohawk territories since the eighteenth century. The pronunciation of and several consonant clusters may differ in the dialects.
