In 718, it was separated from Kazusa to become the separate <a href="page.php?w=Provinces_of_Japan">province</a> of <a href="page.php?w=Awa_Province_%28Chiba%29">Awa</a>, which existed to the <a href="page.php?w=Meiji_Restoration">Meiji Restoration</a> of 1868.</p>
