<p>The name Darnaway represents an anglicisation of the <a href="page.php?w=Scottish_Gaelic">Gaelic</a> form Taranaich. Taranaich conserves an early <a href="page.php?w=Common_Brittonic">Brittonic</a> form, Taranumagos, derived from the elements taranu meaning "thunder" and magos, "a plain" (<a href="page.php?w=Welsh_language">Welsh</a> taran-maes).</p>
