In later books, Roth uses Zuckerman as a protagonist, starting with the 1979 novel <a href="page.php?w=The_Ghost_Writer">The Ghost Writer</a>, where he is a writing apprentice on a pilgrimage to cull the wisdom of the reclusive author E.
