<p>From a near-complete skull of the genus <a href="page.php?w=Palaeoryctes">Palaeoryctes</a> found in <a href="page.php?w=New_Mexico">New Mexico</a>, it is known that palaeoryctids were small, <a href="page.php?w=shrew">shrew</a>-like <a href="page.php?w=insectivore">insectivore</a>s with an elongated snout similar to that of the <a href="page.php?w=Leptictida">leptictids</a>.
