However, he adopted elements of modernism after 1940 in some of his compositions, such as an increased use of dissonance and chromaticism in the <a href="page.php?w=Cello_Concerto_%28Barber%29">Cello Concerto</a> (1945) and <a href="page.php?w=Medea%27s_Dance_of_Vengeance">Medea's Dance of Vengeance</a></p><p>
