<p>The larger sulci are also called <a href="page.php?w=Sulcus_%28morphology%29">fissures</a>. The cortex develops in the <a href="page.php?w=fetal">fetal</a> stage of <a href="page.php?w=corticogenesis">corticogenesis</a>, preceding the cortical folding stage known as <a href="page.php?w=gyrification">gyrification</a>. The large fissures and main sulci are the first to develop.</p>
