<p>Cellulose was discovered in 1838 by the French chemist <a href="page.php?w=Anselme_Payen">Anselme Payen</a>, who isolated it from plant matter and determined its chemical formula. Cellulose was used to produce the first successful thermoplastic polymer, celluloid, by Hyatt Manufacturing</p><p>
