The choice to define compressibility as the <a href="page.php?w=additive_inverse">negative</a> of the fraction makes compressibility positive in the (usual) case that an increase in pressure induces a reduction in volume. The reciprocal of compressibility at fixed temperature is called the isothermal <a href="page.php?w=bulk_modulus">bulk modulus</a>.</p><p>
