<p>The word coracle is an English spelling of the original <a href="page.php?w=Welsh_language">Welsh</a> <i>cwrwgl</i>, cognate with <a href="page.php?w=Irish_language">Irish</a> and <a href="page.php?w=Scottish_Gaelic">Scottish Gaelic</a> <i>[[currach]]</i>, and is recorded in English text as early as the sixteenth century. Other historical English spellings include corougle, corracle, curricle and coricle.</p>
