<p>Despite their name, electric eels are not closely related to the true eels (<a href="page.php?w=Anguilliformes">Anguilliformes</a>) but are members of the <a href="page.php?w=electroreceptive">electroreceptive</a> knifefish order <a href="page.php?w=Gymnotiformes">Gymnotiformes</a>. This order is more closely related to <a href="page.php?w=catfish">catfish</a>. In 2019, electric eels were split into three species:</p><p>
