<p>A "plain" molding has right-angled upper and lower edges. A "sprung" molding has upper and lower edges that <a href="page.php?w=bevel">bevel</a> towards its rear,  allowing mounting between two non-parallel planes (such as a wall and a ceiling), with an open space behind.
