For evolutionary systematicists, "monophyletic" means only that a group is derived from a single common ancestor. In <a href="page.php?w=phylogenetic_nomenclature">phylogenetic nomenclature</a>, there is an added caveat that the ancestral species and all descendants should be included in the group.
