<p>of conflict. In 1839, under international arbitration, it was finally decided to split Limburg and Luxemburg into their two modern parts. The western part of Limburg, corresponds roughly to the old county of Loon, and became a province of Belgium. Both the Belgian and Dutch parts kept their new name of Limburg.</p>
