<p>There were no strict requirements about furniture, but most of it came from the <a href="page.php?w=Library_Bureau">Library Bureau</a>, established by <a href="page.php?w=Melvil_Dewey">Melvil Dewey</a> in 1888. It sold standardized chairs, tables, catalogs, and bookshelves.</p>
